Isaiah 16: Moab’s protected exile in Zion as their lands face devastation and  gladness and Joy of their fruitful fields are gathered away.

1: Send a plump lamb to a king of Sela’s  (Edomite city, SE dead sea) land, a desert up to a mountain, daughter of Tsion.

2: It happened that as a fluttering bird (from) a nest is cast out, so it happens to Moab’s daughter at the bridges (crossings over)  of Arnon.

3: Cause counsel to traverse, make a judicial ruling set like your night shadow in the middle of noondays. Conceal the banished. Do not expose escapees.

4:  Banished Moab sojourns in you. Be for them a hidden shelter from a devastator. For ceased is devastation. Finished are the tramplers of the land.

5: Ended is the extortioner. Caused to be established wiith lovingkindness is a throne. And abides on it in truth and in David’s tent is a judge and a seeker of  justice and skilled righteousness.

6: We heard Moab’s pride – pride exceeding his pride and his pride and outbursts  – not so his bragging.

Pause and think about that!

7: Therefore cause Moab to wail for Moab. All wail for Kir Kharasheth’s ( Kerak – meaning fortress – is on a spur 900m above sea level looks down into the Arnon gorge, spared by Jehoshafat in horror when its king sacrificed his heir to win 2 Kings 3:2,7, fs) raisin cakes(festive cakes vs Jer 48:22 house of fig cakes).

Indeed you moan utter scourges.

8:  For Kheshbon ( Sihon’s Amorite city, then Reuben’s when Sihon refused Israel peaceful passage, to build after they and Gad had helped the rest settle across the Jordan, fs) cultivated fields had languished.

Sibma’s (town next to Kheshbon also Amorite taken by Reuben and then Moab, Jer 48:32) vines were hammered by lords of unbelieving nations till Yazer’s (Between Kheshbon and Rabbah Ammon (NW) on the King’s highway, conquered from Amorites, one of 48 Levitical cities for Gad Josh 21:39, 1 Chron 6:81 and source of Temple gatekeepers 1 Chron 26: 32, Jer 48:32) red-grapevives – struck and led astray in a desert, her tendrils had been forsaken.

They had crossed over  a sea.

9: And then I sob sobs over  Yazer’s vines (Jer 48:32).

Sibma, I drink my fill of my tears.

For raucous whoops fall on Kheshbon and El-aleh’s (North of Kheshbon and even higher on the plateau – hence God ascends – reconquered after Solomon’s time by Mesha, Amorite kings, Is 15:4, 16:9 Jer 48:34) summer fruits and harvest (ketsek, ketsirek).

10: And gladness and Joy are gathered-to-be-removed (asaf)  from the fruitful-field (Carmel).

And in fruitful fields,

no ringing-song of praise (yerunna),

no trumpet-blowing (yeroah – rua as in t’rua),

no wine in wine-vats being treaded by treaders.

I caused a raucous whoop to cease.

11: And thus my tummy rumbles for Moab like a harp, my inner being (kirbi) for Kir Heres (same as Kir Kharaseth).

12:  And when it had happened to be seen that Moab was exhausted  on the high place, and he had traversed to a holy place to make himself intercede – and he is not able.

13: This is Yehoweh’s speech  which he had spoke about Moab from then.

14: And now Yehoweh had spoken to say, in 3 years it is like years of hired-employment and Moab’s glory was dishonoured with all the great horde. And a remnant will be much not small and not mighty.

Pause and think about that.

Prayer:   Lord, may the covenanted in Zion step up to the role of protecting the huge refugee remnant of Moab in secret hiding from their enemies as they escape from the devastation of their cities in their Highlands to the dry deserts below and as the gladness and Joy of their fields are gathered away. Amen.
