1: God’s instructions to a music director, to sons of a baldy (Korah – who sought to replace Moses and the promised land with all people and Egypt and was swallowed up by the earth but whose sons were spared Num 15):
We had heard with our ears, our fathers had counted the work you had worked/done for us in their days and in ancient (Kedem – east / sunrise before Psalms, mostly related to time during and after Psalms) days.
2: You, Your hand, had caused unbelieving nations to possess by driving out.
And you had planted and cause evil / injury to peoples.
And you send them away.
3: For not by their sword did they possess a land by driving out.
And not by their arm had they caused to save (Hoshea – Ha’Yshua ) to them.
But Your Right Hand and Your Arm and Light of Your Face
For You had found them acceptable.
4: You are my God and King.
Command Jacob’s salvations (pleural of Yshua x12 when multiple acts are provided for/by Jacob/ anointed/ king (Englishman concordance), a contrast vs Jacob’s trouble).
5: Through You we butt our oppressors in Your Name
By Your Name we trample our those who stand up against us.
6: For I do not trust in my bow
And my sword will not cause me to be saved.
7: For You had caused us to be saved from our oppressors,
And You had caused those who hate us to be put to shame.
8: All day we had shouted out (hallel) Your Name
And we had caused Your Name to be praised forever.
Pause and think about that!
9: Although You had spurned us and caused us to be humiliated
And You don’t go out to our Parliaments.
10: You cause us to turn back from an oppressor
And those who hated us had plundered for themselves.
11: You give us like sheep for food
And in unbelieving nations You scattered us.
12: You sell Your people for no wealth
And You had not increased their hire price (salary?).
13: You set us up as a reproach for our neighbours
And laughing-stock to those surrounding us.
14: you set us up as a proverb in unbelieving nations
And a head-shake among people.
15: All the day, my reproach is before me
And shame had filled my face.
16: In a reproacher and blasphemer voice, an enemy had made himself avenge himself.
17: All this had traversed us
And we had not forgotten you
And we had not dealt falsely with Your Covenant.
18: Our heart had not been turned back
And our foot steps stretch from Your trodden-path.
19: And you had crushed us in a jackals place
And You had covered a shadow of death over us.
20: If we had forgotten our God’s Name
And our hands are spread to a strange god.
21: Will not our God explore this?
For He is a know-er of a heart’s secrets.
22: For over You we are slayed all the day.
Like sheep are accounted (for) slaughter. (Rom 8:34)
23: Awake! For what do you sleep, Lord?
Make yourself wake up! Do not spurn us for perpetuity
24: For what do you make your face concealed?
You forget our poverty and our oppression.
25: For our soul is sunk to the dust, our belly clings to land.
26: Rise up as a helper for us
And ransom us for the sake of Your loving kindness.
Prayer:
Lord, You called us and our enemies! We trust You, our God and King, even when we are called to take up our cross, be shamed, underpaid, oppressed, constrained and scattered. But we, despite all our previous rescues, need Your help. Please pay our ransom.
