Isaiah 20:  How can we be saved? Naked and barefoot Yshua-Yahu’s sign of threes.

1: In a year of a Tharthan’s (an Ashur/Assyrian commander) coming to Ashdoda (Despoiler, one of 5 philistine cities on the coast between Gaza and Joppa where Dagon idol fell before it when the ark was seized, also destroyed in in Amos 1: 6-9, Zeph 2, Zech 9, subsequently Azotus – where Philip preached Acts 8:40), sent by Sargon, king of Ashur.  (Sargon II of Assyria 722-705BC was trying to quell a rebellion in Ashdod in 711,his (Sarrukhin) palace can be seen in Khorsabad, Iraq, north of Mosul but in the Louvre. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rediscovery_of_Sargon_II ).

He fought (is fought) by Ashdod and seizes it.

2: In the/time when Yehoweh had spoken by Isaiah (ysha-Jesus Yah- Yehoweh) son of Amoz (strength) to say Walk.   And He had opened the sackcloth from your loins (refers to undoing a dhoti which is tied by looping it for work) and your sandals He pulls off from your feet. And He did so walking naked and barefoot.

Pause  and think about that.

3: And Yehoweh says, As my servant Isaiah (Jesus-Yehoweh) had walked naked and barefoot,

A three years’ sign/time ( singular of shanim is shanah which is second/repeat and repeats or revolutions refer to around sun ie years but any revolution or repeat could qualify – eg around earth’s axis ie days, around the universe’s pivot galaxy in God’s time in light years?? Is this an oblique reference to the sign of Jesus God being naked and barefoot on the cross and then three days in the tomb??))

and a wonder (singular mofeth – wonder – is used in reference to exile or prophet or judgement but Yehoweh’s signs and wonders mofethim in plural was reserved for references of Yehoweh’s role in aIsrael’s exodus FROM Egypt) –

over Egypt (fortified country)

and over Cush (Ham’s son Cush who was Nimrod’s father in southern Nile / Ethiopia and adjacent Arabia? – Africa/ middle Eastern lands (?UAE/Saudi) around Ethiopia/ Sudan, Zeph 3:10, Ethiopia and Egypt in Isaiah are used almost synonymously; and this was because Egypt was ruled by an Ethiopian dynasty (the 25th) from 715 until 603 BC; Bright dates the oracle at 714 BC. (Broadman Bible Commentary Nashville: Broadman Press, 1971: 246-247) – some twelve or thirteen years prior to Sennacherib’s siege of Jerusalem. Samaria had already fallen in 722 BC before the event of Sennacherib’s siege; and included the predicted slaughter of Sennacherib’s army https://www.studylight.org/commentaries/eng/bcc/isaiah-18.html Rashi thinks it’s part of Ezek 38:5 – part of Gog https://www.chabad.org/library/bible_cdo/aid/15949/jewish/Chapter-18.htm)

4: And so Ashur’s (Assyria – Shem’s second son, blessed/happy)  king drives the/time of Egypt’s captive and Cush’s exile – young and old, naked and barefoot and naked Egypt’s stripped buttocks (Assyrian kings Esarhaddon and Ashurbanipal subsequently conquered Egypt).

Assyria included most of the middle east, Turkey, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, possibly Somalia, and Yemen.

5: And in Cush they were shattered and shamed in their hope/expectation

and in Egypt, their beauty.

6: And coastal inhabitants said, “Behold this is that Day. Thus there (goes) our hope of where we fled for help to be snatched from Ashur’s king’s face.

And how can we be saved?”

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, we are naked and barefoot, shamed because we trusted in fortifications and powerful neighbours. How can we be saved?

By Jesus, our God, naked and barefoot on the cross and in the tomb for three days, walking the earth for three years. Yehoweh’s awesome sign and wonder to us.

Hallelujah!

PS Should the Syrian president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, an engineer whose family escaped from the Golan heights to Saudi, and who was an al-Qaueda affiliate-general, who has begun to coordinate with all his neighbours and the west, and, as of August 2026, allowed IEAE access to Assad’s old nuclear material and has restructured Russian access to Syria, trust in his fortifications and strong neighbours? Shouldn’t any modern day Assyrian trust rather in Yehoweh’s Sign to them?
