1: A Damashek (Damascus, fs) burden: Damascus turned aside from being a city (mayir) and became a heap (mayi) of ruins.
2: They happen to be forsaken in Aroer city (just north of Arnon on Moabite border). They happen to be for flocks.
And no one lay down for fear.
3: And it had ceased to be a fortress of Ephraim (covered/Fruitful replaced by Joseph in Rev 7:4,8. Revelation’s tribe list excludes Dan and Ephraim and includes Levi and Joseph*) and of a Damascus kingdom and Aram’s (Israel’s forefathers, Shem’s son, land east of Lebanon and Damascus, Syrian Highlands) remnant happens to be like glory of Israel’s sons.
Word Yehoweh (Signed off by Yshua).
4: And it happened in a day that Jacob’s (crafty opportunist) glory is sagged and fat of his flesh becomes lean*.
5: And it had happened to be as a harvest of standing-grain is gathered-to-be-removed and his arm harvests the ears- of-grain.
And as it had happened to be in the gleaning of ears in a valley of Refaim (giant prehistoric dwellers on Jordans banks, opposed patriarchs, linked with Philistines, healers).
6: And he was left over in it like gleanings (of a) shake of an olive tree – two or three olives on a branch of four or five fruit-bearing branches.
Word Yehoweh God of Israel (Signed off Yshua God) .
7: In That Day, the man (Adam) gazes on his Maker and his eyes (fp) look at The Holy One of Israel.
8: And he does not look upon the altars of the work of his hands and which he had made with his fingers. And he does not see the happiness-godesses (Asherim) and the sun/incense pillars.
9: In That Day, it happens that cities’ (fpc) strength is like the abandoned forest and the tree top which was abandoned from the faces of Israel’s sons. And it had happened to be a desolation (fs).
10; For you (fs) had forgotten God of your salvation,
and Rock of your fortress, you had not remembered.
Over-and-above that, you (fs) plant pleasant plants and you sow strange tender-vine-shoots.
11: In a day you grow your plant
and in a morning when you make your sowing to sprout a harvest heap
In a diseased day of incurable pain.
Pause and think about that!
12: Woe! The tumult of a great many peoples. They roar like the roar of the sea. And the clamour of communities. They indeed clamour like the clamour of mighty waters.
13: Like the rumble of mighty waters for the communities are they rumbling. And He had rebuked them. And He had put them to flight from afar. And He had chased them like chaff on the mountains in the face of a wind and like a whirlwind in the face of a tempest.
14: It is the/time of evening, and behold – terror before dawn. This is no one’s portion – the despoilers and plundering lot.
Pause and think about that.
Prayer:
Lord Yshua, may we forget the work of our hands and the pursuit of happiness worship but remember You, The God of our Salvation. We are opportunists (v4) seeking instant gratification and this causes disease and chronic pain (v11). When our cities decimate in Damascus and Israel weakens, save us from terrorism, desolation for You, The Word of God, Yshua, are our Rock and our Fortress. Amen.
