Jeremiah 49a: 1-22. Jesus returns and makes appointments on days to hold to account those who act shamelessly for family and nation (Ammonite) and who exchange their inheritance for pleasure (Edomites) or trouble His people (Amorite).  

1: Against sons of Ammon (Lot’s son’s people – ben Ammi by his younger daughter – in northern Jordan – the other daughter’s people – Moab – were in the south)  thus says Yehoweh:

Are there any of the sons  occupied  Israel – if any he (one)?

For what is known (of why) their king dispossessed Gad (Leah’s Zilpah’s son who inherited middle Eastern Jordan – half of Ammonite land Josh 13:25) and his people and had permanently inhabited it’s cities?

2: Therefore Behold, Word Yehoweh’s coming dayS:

 I caused a war trumpet blast (thruath – fem) to be heard in Rabbath (capital, present day Amman, rab means great – fem). 

And it happened to become for a Tel (mound), a desolation. 

And her daughters are set on fire. 

And Israel occupied his occupied says Yehoweh.

 3: Make a wail, Kheshbon (Sihon’s city in east Jordan – the Amorite (Canaanites who were sons of Ham) king who refused Israel passage Num 21:21-26, Gad, Reuben and half Manasseh territory Josh 13:10) for Aiy is plundered (means heap of ruins, Canaanite city in ruins till today, Abraham’s altar Gen12:8, Benjamin’s territory Josh 18:23). 

Shriek, daughters of Rabbah (another Cannanite city probably South, Judah’s territory Josh 15:6), lament, make yourselves go to and fro within your walls  for your king is a captive, he walks as one with his priests and his princes.

4: Why do you (fem) make yourselves praise ( hallel) yourselves in valleys?

This is your valley, the daughter, the turning around (shoov), the trusting in her treasures.

Who traverses over me?

5: Behold, I cause terror of Word Lord Yehoweh of Parliaments to traverse over you from all around you.   

And everyone is pushed down on their faces

And no one gathers (to collect, kavetz) the pushed down. 

6: Then, in the end, I, Word Yehoweh, cause the captive sons of Ammon to turn around. (No mention of Amorites! Seems they were as much spectators of Ammon’s desolation as recepients)

Pause and think about that!

 

 

7:  Against Edom ( Esau’s, southeast dead sea, those who gave inheritance for earthly pleasures) thus says Yehoweh of Parliaments:

Is there not any wisdom/skill anymore in the South / right hand /Teman? (Teman from yamin, south West Jordan, northwest Saudi, traditionally academic, Ma’an in Saudi today, God comes up as judge from there in Hab 3:3)

Planning /consultation had wandered off from discernment/intelligence (Obadiah 1:8)

and had run free from their wisdom.  

8: Flee, go deep, be faced with the permanently residing residers of Dedan (tradesmen, town next to Teman in Saudi).

For Esau’s (was done-for) calamity was made to traverse over him in the time I had appointed to hold him to account (pakkad). 

9: When grape gatherers traverse to/from you, they will not cause grapes to be left over (Obadiah 1:5)).

By night, do thieves  not cause to spoil you enough?

10: For I stripped off The Esau, uncovered his hiding places and he was not able to be hidden.  His descendants and his brothers and his neighbours were robbed and he is no more.

11: Let your orphans go.

And I, I let your widows (who) trust in Me live.

Pause and think about that!

 

 12: For thus says Yehoweh, “Behold, anyone who is to drink their cup of judgement, will drinkingly drink.

And are he and you accquitingly acquitted?

Not acquitted – but drinkingly drinking. 

13: For I, Word Yehoweh, was sworn to Myself that Botsrah (Edomite city, modern Bueseirah in Jordan, Jesus as Judge goes from Teman to Botsrah Is 63:1, Amos 1:12)  and all its cities are for astonishment, for shame, for drought and for a curse – droughts forever. 

14: A hearing/report was heard from Yehoweh and an envoy despatched to unbelieving nations: ‘Make yourselves Gather to collect and traverse against her (Botsrah is fem) for war.

15: For Behold I gave you the smallest of unbelieving nations, despised by man (Obadiah 1:2). 

16: Your terror had caused deception.

The pride of your heart for you is dwelling in the rock clefts, grabbing heights of hills.

If you cause haughtiness / ascent like an eagle’s nest,

I, Word Yehoweh, cause you descent from there.

17: And it had happened.

Edom is horror to each one who crosses-over (avar) over it (Balaam mentions this in his messianic prophecies Num 24:18).

He is horrified and whistles over all it’s plagues.

18: As in the overthrow  (5/6 times hapak is used for Sodom) of Sodom (scorch) and Gomorrah (ruined heap) and their neighbours, says Yehoweh,

no man resides (permanently) there  (Obadiah 1:18)

and no Son Of Man sojourns in her. 

19: Behold! Like a lion (Balaam mentions this in his messianic prophecies Num 24:9), He ascends from the Jordan Pride over perennial pastures and I suddenly make Him still, I made Him accelerate way from her.

And who is an eligible young man for her (whom) I can to appoint to account?

For who is like Me?

And who causes Me to betroth/appoint?

And who is This Shepherd who can take a stand to My Face?

Pause and think about that!

20: Therefore listen to Yehoweh’s advice which He advised against Edom,and His contrivance which he contrived against Teman’s permanent residents:

If the smallest of the flock does not drag them out,

22: Behold, like an eagle He ascends and flies and spreads His wings over Botsrah.

If He does not cause horror over them and their pastures,

21: the earth quakes at the sound of their fall,

The noise of the Shriek of the red sea is heard.

And it happens in a day that the heart of Edom’s mighty men, they are the heart of a woman made to cramp.

Prayer: Lord, may I never give up my inheritance for pleasures or let myself become shameless just to propogate for my nation and family. For I do not want to have an appointment with You to be held to account and then punished. Amen.
