Psalm 86: Your Servant, Your maidservant’s son, You cause to save (Hoshea) us

1: David’s intercession:

Yehoweh, cause your ear to incline.

Answer! For its afflicted and needy me!

2: Watch! For pious soul am I.

I Cause to save (Hosha), Your Servant (v 16).

You are My God.

The Truster in You (?!?).

3: Show favour Lord,

for to You I call out all day.

4: Rejoice, soul of Your servant

For I bear my soul up to You.

5: For You are Lord, good and polished, great in covenantal-mercy, to all those who call out to You.

6: Yehoweh, Cause to listen to my intercession and cause to heed to my plea-for-mercy voice.

7: In a day of trouble, I call out to You

For You answer me.

8: No one is like You, Lord among gods and nothing is like Your Doing.

9: All unbelieving nations which you made traverse and make themselves prostrate themselves (?Hitpael wayyiqtol) to Your face Lord and glorify Your Name.

10: For You are great and do works (which are) marvelled – You are a God Apart!

11: Cause my arrow-learning (yarad = shoot = goal focussed instruction), Yehoweh.

I walk Your Way in Your Truth,

made one with my heart to fear Your Name.

12: I cause grateful thanks to You, Lord, My God with all my heart and I glorify You, Your Name, forever.

13:  For Your covenant-kindness is great over me and You have caused to snatch away my soul from the lowest (part of) Sheol (underworld).

14: Proud-Presumptioned gods arose over me and  terrifying assemblies/churches sought my soul and did not place You in front of them.

15: And You are

supportive-compassionate (Rakhoom* all 13 times used only for God) and

gracious (khanoon),

slow to lose temper (erek affeem) and

great in covenant-kindness (rab-kesedh)

(all 4 descriptions are together used for God in Ex 34:6, Neh 9:17, Ps 103:8, 145:8, Joel 2:13, Jonah 4:2) and

truth (emeth).

16: Face me and covenant-mercy me.

Give Your Servant strength.

Cause The Son of Your maidservant to save (Hoshea l’ben) (v2)

17: Make a good sign for me – and haters see it and are ashamed.

For You, Yehoweh, helped me and covenantally-relented (nakham) me.

Prayer: You are covenantally compassionate and kind, gracious, slow to lose Your temper with us and yet You are Truth. You caused Your Servant, your maidservant’s son, to save us! He gave us a good sign (??the cross) to shame our hater! Amen.
