Zephaniah 1: Naeum Yehoweh, The Word of God, Jesus’ role on a day of the Lord – gathering, calling to account, making an end.

1: Yehoweh’s word (Dabar not Naeum) which came to Tsaphoni- yah (Hoard -Yah) son of Cushi (Ethiopian) son of Gadoli-yah (Great-one Yah) son of Amari-Yah (Speaker- Yah) son of Kizkhi-Yah (Strengthen-Yah) in days of Yashi-Yah (Saviour-Yah) son of Aman (Faithful), king of Judah (Praise).

2: Gathering-to-remove, I, Word-Yehoweh, cause to gather-to-remove from all the face of The soil (Adamah),

3: I cause to gather-to-remove Adam and beast

I cause to gather-to-remove birds of the heavens and fish of the waters and the stumbling blocks of the trouble-makers (Ra).

I, Word-Yehoweh,  caused to cut down The Adam from  the face of The soil (Adamah).

4: And I spread out My Hand above Judah and above Jerusalem’s inhabitants.

And I caused to cut down from this The place, remnants of The Baal (lord), of The non-jewish priests (?christian Kaamar) with The priests (jewish – Cohen).

5: And to The Worshippers on the terraces (flat roof tops) in the Parliament of the heavens (?christians)  and The Worshippers and Those-sworn-to-Yehoweh and those-sworn into Milkom (Malcolm – their king).

6: And to those-turning-aside from behind Yehoweh and who had not sought to Yehoweh and had not inquired of/researched Him.

7: Hush in Lord Yehoweh’s face for a day of Yehoweh is close for Yehoweh, He caused to establish a slaughter-sacrifice. He made holy His Called-out.

8: And it happened on a day of Yehoweh’s slaughter-sacrifice that I appointed-to-account (faqad) over the princes (Sar) and over the king’s sons and those clothed with foreign clothes.

9: And I appointed-to-account over all those who leapt over the (temple) threshold in a day which he, the fillers of the house of their lords, Violence (Kamas/Hamas) and Deceit. Pause and think!

10: And it happened on a day (of) Word Yehoweh that (there was) a voice, a shriek, from Fish Gate, a howl from the second, a great shattering from the hills

11: Make a howl, inhabitants of market district/mortar for all humbled / Cnan people are silenced. All burdens of silver /money are cut off.

12: And it happened that I searched out The Jerusalem with lamps. I appointed-to-account over men who dregged in stagnation, saying in their hearts, Yehoweh will not cause good and cause trouble.

13: Their wealth became plunder and their houses desolate. They built houses and do not inhabit them. And they establish vineyards but do not drink their wine.

14: The great day of Yehoweh is close. A voice close and quickly hurrying. ‘Bitter day of Yehoweh –  there’ the mighty cry out.

15: A day of fury,

the day that is a day of trouble and tribulation,

a day of desolation within desolation (combination used in Job 30:3, 38:27),  

a day of darkness and gloom (combination used in Exod 10:22 for what Moses did to Egypt for 3 days, Joel 2:2),

A day of a drooping thunder cloud (combination used in Deut 4:11,5:22, Ps 97:2, Ex 34:12, Joel 2:2)

16: A day of a trumpet blast (shofar truah on a Jubilee day of atonement – Lev 25:9) over the fortified cities and over arrogant kingpins.

17: And I caused men distress and they walked blindly for they had missed-the-mark-sinned (khatha) against Yehoweh. And He poured out their blood like dust, their edibles like dung.

18: Also their silver, also their gold will not be able to cause them to be snatched out in a day of Yehoweh’s fury.

All the land was eaten by the fire of His Jealousy.

For He makes an end – indeed terrifying – of all who dwell in the land. Pause and think!

Prayer: O Lord Jesus, I would not want to be missing the mark before You on a Day of the Lord when violence and deceit ended and the wicked were stopped. Amen.

Note: Naeum – ‘Word’ in Zephaniah 1,2 is not listed among the 367 instances of its use in Strongs lexicon no 5002.
