Hosea 11: They called on the Lord but did not exalt Him

1: When Israel was a lad and I loved him, and from Egypt, I called My Son.

 

2: They called to them and then they walked from their faces to lords (Ba’als).

They slaughter-sacrifice and smoke-sacrifice to carved images.

 

3: And I, I footed Covered-one, took them by their shoulders, and they did not know that I had healed them.

 

4: I drew human territories for them with with cords of love. I was to them as those who cause lifting away a yoke from their cheek, gently making up to them and causing them to be fed.

 

5: He won’t turn back to Egyptian land and his king Ashur because they refused to turn back.

 

6: A sword will whirl through his cities, finished in separate parts, eaten up because of their plans.

 

7: My hung-up people, turning away from Me, calling to the on-high but not one exalting Him.

 

8: How can I give to you, Covered-one?

Deliver you up, God-Strife?

(Can I) Give to you (something) like Admah?

 (Can I) Set up for you (something) like Tsabolim?

 

(Admah and Tsabolim were beyond Gaza and belonged to the Cannanites Gen 10:19, raided by Abraham to rescue Lot Gen 14:8 and which, along with Sodom and Gomorrah, were destroyed by Yehoveh with brimstone and fire because they rebelled against Him Deut 29:23)?

 

My Heart is overturned over me,

one with My Compassion warmed up.

9: I am not making my temper burn fiercely.

I am not returning and letting Ephraim go to ruin.

For I am God and not a holy man amidst you and not coming excitably.

10: They will walk after Yehoweh. He will roar like a lion. When he roars, his sons will come trembling from the sea.

11: Trembling like a bird from Egypt, like a dove from the land of Ashur.

I caused them to settle in their houses.

12: Covered-One has encircled us with deceit and treachery.

The house of God-strife and God-praise are still restless with God even (when) affirmed by the holy ones.  

Prayer: Lord may we never reject Your Love for us. May we all – believing and unbelieving nations – exalt You.
