Judges 7:2,3,7 – ONLY YOU cause to save (Hoshea) – using a remnant.

Judges 7

2: And Yehoweh said to Gideon, “A great number of people are with you to give the Midianites into your hands. Then Israel will beautify itself against me saying, “My own hand has caused me to save (Hoshea-d, Hifil) me.”

3: Now please, in the ears of the people, call out saying, Who is afraid? Turn back (Shoov) and quickly depart from the bare mountain (Gilead) …

And so 22000 are sent off, and 10000 remain but still too much so after the “lapping test” finally, 300 remain!

7: And Yehoweh said to Gideon, “By 300 men who lapped, I will make you lot saved (oshea – Hifil (causative)). I gave you the Midianites”.

 

Lord, our churches, national services and hospitals, social programmes, staffing and economies are being depleted, stepped down, people are retiring or going away not because you want these to close down but so that they go below the safe threshold of existence so we cannot claim our hand caused us to be saved. But then we will have ONLY YOU who caused us to be saved using a remnant. Amen.
